Pebble Hills University Signs MOU with Mekdela Amba University
Pebble Hills University (PHU) is thrilled to announce the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mekdela Amba University (MAU) in Ethiopia. This strategic partnership represents a significant milestone in our commitment to fostering academic collaboration and expanding educational opportunities across borders.
Mekdela Amba University is situated on two campuses—Tulu Awuliya, located in the Legambo District, and Mekane Selam, located in the Borena District of the South Wollo Zone, Amhara Regional State. Since its founding in November 2015, based on Proclamation No. 355/2015, MAU has grown to become a vital educational institution, currently accommodating over 5,115 undergraduate students and 54 postgraduate students. This growth is supported by a dedicated faculty of 412 and 515 administrative staff across five colleges, one school, and 28 departments.
The MOU aims to advance mutual cooperation in several areas, including research, student exchange programs, and joint academic initiatives. Both PHU and MAU are committed to enhancing educational excellence and promoting global understanding, aligning with their shared vision for quality education.
Mekdela Amba University has developed a comprehensive ten-year Strategic Plan (2025-2034) designed to transform the institution into a leading hub for knowledge, research, and innovation. This strategic approach will enable MAU to address national, regional, and global demands effectively. As part of this vision, the university has identified four key focus areas: Agriculture, Mining, Culture and Tourism, and Technology Development. These sectors will enhance MAU’s academic and research initiatives, while simultaneously reinforcing community outreach efforts over the coming decade.
Through the collaboration with PHU, Mekdela Amba University aims to produce innovative, entrepreneurial, and globally competitive graduates while conducting problem-solving research relevant to its focus areas. The partnership is also expected to facilitate the implementation of development projects of national and international significance through technology transfer and collaborative efforts.
This partnership not only enriches the academic landscape for both institutions but also provides invaluable opportunities for students and faculty to engage in meaningful cross-cultural experiences. By joining forces, PHU and MAU will develop innovative programs and joint research projects that can address some of the most pressing challenges faced by communities in both regions.
