Mr. Hiew Boon Thong is a highly esteemed individual who has made significant contributions to the Royal Malaysian Police force, serving with distinction for over 36 years and achieving the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). His exceptional service and exemplary performance have been recognized through numerous Service Medals, Letters of Commendation, and the Excellent Service Award in 2008 from the Inspector General of Police.
Following his retirement, Mr. Hiew Boon Thong continued to make a difference in the corporate world as the Managing Director of two esteemed local oil palm companies, namely Happy Plantations (Sandakan) Pte Ltd and Happy Plantations (Kota Marudu) Pte Ltd. His expertise and leadership have been invaluable in driving these organizations towards success.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Hiew Boon Thong has been actively involved in religious and social activities for more than 40 years. He has demonstrated his commitment to the betterment of society by organizing numerous large-scale Buddhist events, including the Buddha Day (Wesak Day) celebrations in Sabah, which have greatly benefited the local community.
Furthermore, Mr. Hiew Boon Thong is the esteemed Founder and current Chairman of five Buddhist associations, namely Sabah Amitabha Society and four Guang Hao Buddhist Societies in Malaysia. His dedication to promoting Buddhist teachings and fostering spiritual growth has had a profound and positive impact for over 25 years.
Academically, Mr. Hiew Boon Thong has pursued a path of continuous learning and intellectual growth. He holds two doctorate degrees, a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) and a Professional Doctorate (PD) in Buddhist Studies, both from the European International University. Additionally, he has earned two Master’s degrees, a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with Distinction from Anglia Ruskin University (UK) and a Master’s degree in Buddhist Studies from the University of Sunderland (UK).
Undeterred by his achievements, Mr. Hiew Boon Thong is currently pursuing his third Doctorate degree in Business Administration (DBA) from Asia E-University (Malaysia) and completing his third Master’s degree in Buddhist Studies from the International Buddhist College (Thailand). His unwavering commitment to education and personal growth exemplifies his dedication to lifelong learning and intellectual exploration.
In recognition of his untiring service, Mr. Hiew Boon Thong has received numerous Letters of Commendation from local government and ministries, including awards from the Minister of Youth and Sports, Minister of Development and Industries, Members of Parliament, welfare associations, and esteemed local dignitaries.
