Dr. Avelino Guterres Correia is a distinguished public health expert with over 33 years of experience, including more than 21 years dedicated to university-level education and community health initiatives in Timor-Leste. Currently residing in Dili, Timor-Leste, Dr. Correia has established himself as a leading figure in public health leadership and health systems development.
Dr. Correia holds a Doctor of Science in Public Health from Atlantic International University, along with a Master of Public Health from the Menzies School of Public Health in Australia. He has also earned recognition as a Doctor of Public Health (Honoris Causa) from Pebble Hills University. His academic achievements reflect a commitment to advancing knowledge and practice in public health, particularly in the context of Timor-Leste’s unique challenges.
Throughout his career, Dr. Correia has been instrumental in shaping public health policies and education systems. As a Senior Health Advisor to the Ministry of Health, he has played a pivotal role in developing strategies for health improvement and quality assurance. His leadership has guided numerous initiatives, including the promotion of maternal and child health, disease prevention, and the establishment of educational programs for healthcare professionals.
In addition to his advisory roles, Dr. Correia has served in various academic positions, including Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty of Public and Medical Sciences at Universidade da Paz.
